
Cranbrook, in the heart of the Weald with its landmark Union Windmill,
is a historic Wealden market town with individual shops, including
antique shops, fine jewellers, and gift shops. There are several restaurants,
pubs and tea-rooms where you may enjoy a light lunch or evening meal.
To
the east, the village of Benenden is just a short drive away, where
the local cricket team often play on the village green watched over
by the 15th century church.
To
the west,the village of Goudhurst sits high on one of the steepest
hills in the Weald. Goudhurst is also the home of the Bedgebury
National Pinetum, with its fine collection of specimen conifers.
Doves
Farm Oast is ideally situated for those wishing to visit the gardens
of Sissinghurst and Scotney Castles, and Pashley Manor. The National
Trust properties of Great Dixter, Batemans and Bodiam Castle are
approximately 20-25 minutes drive. Finchcocks House, Goudhurst,
a fine Georgian manor, housing a magnificent collection of over
100 historical keyboard instruments, is just a short drive away.
